In this continuing meditation series, we will delve more into how meditation can help to both create balance and also show us when things are out of balance in our lives. We will continue our exploration of how to sustain a practice, given the circumstance and realities of our lives in a way that helps create a dynamic, living balance that comes from a place of introspection and stillness. This session will involve more seated meditation as well as discussions on how to move from and into stillness, and how stillness and "not-doing" helps to create a foundation for balance.

Please join us for a unique experience to practice meditation and cultivate awareness in a group setting. This is a peer-group for practioners with an established personal meditation practice. There are no "formal" teachings, rather it is a way to see how your own meditation practice comes alive in a group setting, and to help you find answers and gain insights into your process. We do this through a seated meditation, followed by a dialogue exchange based on specific guidelines designed to cultivate capacity, skill and compassion. This approach allows people from different traditions and levels of experience, who may be doing various practices, to still come together and meet as a group. Prerequisite: min. one year regular meditation practice.

PREVIOUS COURSES:
WORKSHOP: Skillfully Responding to Life: A 5-Month Meditation Series
How do we skillfully meet challenges in our lives? How do we move from reacting to responding to situations? Can our thoughts and actions become a way to reduce confusion and struggle? To meet life fully we must hold all our experience in awareness. To do, so we must learn how to truly open to what arises, then meet and act to the best of our abilities. This 5-month meditation series will be an in-depth exploration of how we can respond to what life presents us, and examine what hinders that capacity in each of us. Through the format of the Four Immeasureables (or Brahmaviharas), we will cultivate a commitment to practising in a way that is is more kind-hearted, joyful and awake, in the true sense of these words. The Four Immeasureables (Equanimity, Loving-Kindness, Joy, Compassion) are qualities of awareness or awakening, which we will explore both in-group and in individual practice, as well as through personal interviews to allow for a more in-depth meditation practice that comes alive in our hearts and in our lives. The 5-month format will allow for group practice time, in-class discussion and questions, as well as create a community for support, guidance and focus in the practice.
WORKSHOP: Meditation & Yoga: Inner & Outer Explorations
Any balanced approach to yoga recognizes the inherent impermanence of the techniques, so that the technique is simply a means for us to start to explore and question: What are we aligned with? What does balance and imbalance feel like? What do we resist and what do we open to? Using the movements of breath and body, we will explore how a meditative experience can emerge from an asana-based practice. We will experience the "inner vinyasa" (flow) within - as well as between - poses, moving from and with awareness, moving from the inside out and the outside in. As we connect to these very natural movements of breath, body and mind, we can begin to better understand how these reflect the larger movements in our lives. In this way, our concept of what yoga and meditation are can expand, so that all experience can become an opportunity for practice.
WORKSHOP: Releasing the Ties that Bind: 8-Week Meditation Training
What do we need to let go of to live life more fully? What ideas, roles, patterns define your life? What do you believe can be taken from you? In this 8-week training we will learn how to direct attention to the actual experience of living life, instead of putting effort into what no longer serves us. This, however, means first exploring our long-held beliefs about who we are and what we need to be doing, and then learning to die to those notions that have come to define how we are in the world. In this way, we learn to face our life exactly as it is, to struggle a bit less with what presents itself, and to more consciously decide how our actions and our practice can enliven us. Previous meditation experience is required.
