Swedish Massage

An oil based massage, designed to relax muscles by applying pressure to them against deeper muscles and bones. Techniques include, flushing the tissues, increasing circulation, stretching the ligaments / tendons keeping them supple and pliable; stimulating the skin / nervous system. A stress reducer, and a regular program for stress management. It also has many specific medical uses.

Thai Massage

In the spirit of yoga, Thai Yoga-Massage uses a combination of deep stretching, breath-work and acupressure, helping to ease tension, increase flexibility, and work with the body on a physical and energetic level. The practitioner remains mindful of each movement and each moment, encouraging a deep sense of relaxation and release for the client. The massage is performed on a floor-mat, in comfortable clothes.

California Massage

California massage is based on the principle that we are whole, connected to ourselves and to this earth, and deserving of compassionate touch. It is an oil-based massage, which uses long, encompassing strokes, incorporating the entire body, while focusing on the breath to help clients become aware not simply of where, but of how, they hold tension within their body.

Hawaiian Massage

Traditional Hawaiian Massage (Lomi-Lomi). Originally developed as a ceremonial massage to mark transitions in life through ritual, lomi-lomi is now performed to help "reweave" areas of the body that are disconnected through physical or emotional tension, pain or trauma. Lomi-lomi means "to rub back-&-forth" and refers to the gentle motion inherent in the technique, which uses long, flowing and pressured strokes that weave up and down the body. A heated stone, custom-blended oils and breathwork are part of the treatment.

Duet (4 hand) massage

Called Mirror Massage in ancient times and performed by two massotherapists who massage the receiver at the same time, tandem, four-hand or duet massage is said to provide an experience similar to meditation. It was originally developed over 5000 years ago for Indian royalty by Ayurvedic doctors and prescribed to patients receiving pancha karma, internal and external rejuvenation of mind, body and spirit. It was typically performed by therapists who had worked together for years. The synchronized choreography they developed was intended to balance and activate the left and right hemispheres of the brain, as well as the different doshas, or constitutions, in the Ayurvedic healing system.

Today, we offer this special type of massage as an advanced experience in relaxation for individuals who are used to being massaged. In a typical massage, clients tend to mentally and physically know where a therapist's hands are, and consciously or not, there is some part of their awareness that follows along. By providing more sensory input than the conscious mind can handle, Tandem massage creates a type of sensory "overload" of relaxing (vs. stressful) information, so that a person must simply release all mental control and more fully relax into the experience that is this massage.
